Since its beginnings in December 2004, Helping Hands has endeavored to continue its original goal, supported by up to 25 Communities of Faith, to shelter the homeless citizens of Rockland County during the cold winter months. In September 2009, Helping Hands opened its long planned Outreach Center to provide year-round help where homeless clients can access the services of a case manager as well as showers, clean clothes and laundry facilities.

Members of Nauraushaun Presbyterian Church have for eight years volunteered to provide a "Safe Haven" in our church for up to 36 men and women during the wintertime, sheltering for 3 night rotations and providing hearty, nutritious meals, chaperones, and friendship. Guests are transported by chaperone driven Helping Hands buses or our own cars. Our members have supported Helping Hands almost from the beginning, financially, prayerfully and with the work of our hands.

In the fall of 2016, Helping Hands anticipates the launch of their "Rapid Re-Housing/Housing First" program. A HUD grant of $162,000 has been awarded which will allow us to accommodate 8 adult men or women for two years (rent, support services, etc.) by which time they should be self-sufficient.
